Guidance for Calculating Fastener Lengths in Machine Tool Design

Does your company want you to put all the fasteners into your machine designs?

The 5 minute video lesson below gives you a quick tutorial on how to decide what length of screw to use and gives you some other tips to help you speed up your machine and tooling designs.

The formulas we used in the video are:

Measured Distance +(Screw Diameter X 1.5) = Ideal Fastener Length

Measured Distance + (Screw Diameter X 2) > Fastener Length

There is plenty more to discuss on the topic of fasteners and fixtures that hold production parts together while they are being assembled or welded.  Be sure to sign up for Education and Updates before you leave.  The lessons are free, and I hope they are a bit fun, and if you sign up before March 31, 2013, you will receive by email a copy of the standards for drilling, tapping and more in a spread sheet that we use at Rentapen.
